Organizations that make grants for charitable purposes in a specific community or region. The funds available to a community foundation are usually derived from many donors and held in an endowment that is independently administered; income earned by the endowment is then used to make grants. (rev. 11/04)
Scope notes: Do not confuse with Community Funds or Community Chests, which are examples of T70 Federated Giving Programs, even though the names sound similar.
Organizations that make grants AND that either (a) state that their purpose is to support a particular community foundation or (b) that are controlled by a community foundation should be coded 'T1131' (use a 2-character common code of 31).
